<p style="text-align: justify;">And yet there is a cost associated with switching from fossil fuels to EVs. Not only do you have to establish the capital cost of the fleet whether you intend on buying vehicles outright or leasing them but you also need to consider the necessary <a href="https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/electricity_infrastructure.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charging infrastructure</a>, as well. Although charging an electric car&#8217;s battery from a three-in mains outlet is technically possible, it will be slow and, worse still, could be unsafe. Given that the production of fossil-fuel-powered cars will cease at the end of this decade, it is consequently not surprising to hear how many companies are buying their own commercial EV chargers.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Indeed, as the 2020s draw to a close, you can only expect the demand for commercial EV charging equipment to grow. Therefore, forward-thinking businesses are already focussed on perhaps the most important consideration of all – adopting this new technology sooner rather than later. If you and your businesses are already committed to such a switchover, what are the other considerations you should be weighing up? Read on to find out.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">1. Location and Property</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To begin with, you will need somewhere suitable for your EV chargers to go. In many cases, businesses already possess suitably sized car parks outside of their offices where charging equipment can be located. Typically, wallboxes will be fixed to parking bays close to the main building for security and convenience. However, robust floor-standing units are also available that can be fitted further afield and, perhaps, charge multiple cars in neighbouring bays simultaneously.</p>

In addition, the lease of your business premises will make a difference. Owner-occupiers will be fine but if you rent your commercial premises, then you ought to check what is allowed outside. For now, the main thing to take on board is that in the majority of cases, fitting EV chargers at rented commercial premises is possible.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Emissions continue to be a huge issue, and there are two main options for helping to rectify that. The first is electric, which is seeing widespread adoption; and the second, <a href="https://www.bioenergyconsult.com/biomass-resources/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">biomass fuel</a>, for more traditional vehicles. Between the two, excellent progress is being made, but there’s much more to be done.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">How electric is helping</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Electric cars are favoured heavily by the national authorities. A recent Times of India report outlined how the government is aiming for an all-electric vehicle fleet by 2030 and is pushing this through with up to <a href="https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/autologue/powering-india-s-electric-vehicles-dream/2957" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/autologue/powering-india-s-electric-vehicles-dream/2957&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1533785391531000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGo_C3u7ycWSKIlXmV5HE2C31fRWA">US$16m of electric vehicle grants</a> this year.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="https://www.bioenergyconsult.com/benefits-of-switching-to-electric-cars/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Green vehicles</a> are obviously a great choice, improving in-city noise and air pollution whilst providing better vehicular safety to boot; a study by the USA’s MIT suggested that electric vehicles are all-around safer than combustion.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">However, where <a href="https://www.bioenergyconsult.com/importance-of-eco-friendly-cars/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">EVs</a> fall down to some extent is through the energy they use. As they are charged from the electricity grid, this means that the electricity is largely derived from fossil fuels &#8211; official statistics show that India is 44% powered by coal. Ultimately, however, this does mean that emissions are reduced. Fuel is only burned at one source, and oil refining isn&#8217;t done at all, which is another source of pollutants. However, as time goes on and the government’s energy policy changes, EVs will continue to be a great option.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">The role of biofuels</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="https://www.bioenergyconsult.com/what-is-lignocellulosic-biomass/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Biofuels</a> are seeing a huge growth in use &#8211; BP has reported that globally, ethanol production grew 3% in 2017. Biofuel is commonly a more favoured option by the big energy companies given the infrastructure often available already to them. While biofuel has been slow on the uptake in <a href="https://www.bioenergyconsult.com/bioethanol-challenges-india/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">India</a>, despite the massive potential available for production, there are now signs this is turning around with the construction of <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/news/new-biofuels-policy-allocates-5000-cr-for-2g-ethanol-plants/article23906021.ece" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/news/new-biofuels-policy-allocates-5000-cr-for-2g-ethanol-plants/article23906021.ece&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1533785391531000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE6yjpu9kbJ2IDNb2uDQH1Se6Ix4g">two US$790m biofuel facilities</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The big benefit of biofuel is that it will have a positive impact on combustion and electric vehicles. The Indian government has stated they intend to use biofuel alongside coal production, with as much as 10% of energy being created using biofuel. Therefore, despite not being emission-free, biofuel will provide a genuine <a href="https://www.bioenergyconsult.com/drop-in-biofuels/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">green energy option</a> to both types of eco-friendly vehicle.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Green car fuel is not entirely clean. The energy has to come from somewhere, and in India, this is usually from coal, gas, and oil. However, the increase in biofuel means that this energy will inevitably get cleaner, making green car fuel absolutely a reality.</p>

<h2 style="text-align: justify;">What is Vehicle-to-Grid Technology?</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">V2G is a form of vehicle-grid integration where an EV communicates with a charger and the grid to control charging and discharging. Using standards such as ISO 15118-20 and modern charger protocols, the system authenticates the vehicle, measures energy flows, and executes commands to shift load or export power.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This communication layer is what allows grid operators or aggregators to treat thousands of parked EVs as a coordinated resource. As EV adoption increases, so does global interest in V2Gs. BloombergNEF projects passenger EV sales could <a href="https://about.bnef.com/insights/clean-transport/electric-vehicle-outlook/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reach 39 million in 2030</a>, up from 17.6 million in 2024, with EV electricity demand expected to grow 2.4 times from 2025 to 2030.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">How V2Gs Help the Community</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">V2Gs help households, businesses and whole communities handle stress on the grid while extracting more value from assets people already own. There are at least six ways it delivers benefits.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">1. Bill Savings</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With V2G-enabled tariffs, a home charger can automatically charge the car during off-peak hours and discharge during peak times. This reduces household demand fees and earns export credits. The U.S. Department of Energy’s vehicle-grid integration program (VGI) emphasizes simplicity and security, so customers can opt in and see predictable value.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">For most homes, hardware choice matters as much as the tariff. Many vehicles today work well <a href="https://asburyelectric.com/what-are-ev-chargers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">with a 32-amp charging station</a>, but drivers planning to purchase newer models may want a 50-amp unit or higher to keep options open. Before buying, confirm the charger and vehicle support bidirectional operation and the utility’s program requirements.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">2. Backup Power During Outages</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Bidirectional EVs can power essential circuits when the grid goes down, keeping lights and appliances running. Travis County in Texas modeled winter-storm scenarios and found that V2G exports of about 7 kilowatts per vehicle could <a href="https://arxiv.org/html/2412.07982v1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut emergency load shedding</a> significantly. Automakers and utilities are designing home integration systems that make this transfer safe and automated. Installers typically recommend a dedicated circuit, a transfer device and a licensed electrician to ensure the setup meets local code.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">3. Faster Adoption of Rooftop Solar</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A home with rooftop solar often exports midday power at low value and buys it back at night at higher prices. V2G can absorb excess solar at noon and release it at dusk, improving self-consumption and reducing evening demand on local feeders. The DOE’s VGI program highlights how <a href="https://www.energy.gov/eere/vehicles/articles/doe-releases-vision-beneficially-integrating-evs-grid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interoperable controls between vehicles</a>, chargers and buildings are key to realizing that value at scale.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">4. Fleet Revenue and Cost Control</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">School buses, city vans and municipal cars sit idle for long stretches of time, making them ideal for V2G services. During a historic 10-day heat wave in California, a San Diego County school district <a href="https://calmatters.org/environment/2023/07/california-electric-cars-bidirectional-charging/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">used seven electric buses</a> to send power back to the grid, enough to supply 452 homes each day of the wave. That real-world dispatch shows how public fleets can help stabilize the grid and create a new revenue stream without affecting service schedules.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">5. Market Services That Lower Energy Costs</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On a larger canvas, coordinated V2G fleets can provide frequency regulation to keep the grid within tight operating limits. The Intelligent Energy System Services (INEES) project in Germany, led by Volkswagen and Fraunhofer ISE, evaluated V2G for frequency control. A fleet of <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2590174525002703" target="_blank" rel="noopener">50 EVs delivered 2 MWh</a> of grid storage capacity and drove a 20% reduction in electricity costs for consumers. Indeed, the right incentives can speed adoption and deliver measurable savings.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">6. Enabling New Business Models</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As market rules evolve, drivers can get paid to export surplus energy. In 2024, France was the first country to allow individual consumers to use commercial V2G. This meant that Renault 5 drivers could <a href="https://newmobility.news/2024/10/23/france-first-to-launch-commercial-v2g-with-electric-renault-5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">make money by selling power</a> to the grid operator under a set contract.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In the U.S., FERC Order 2222 <a href="https://www.ferc.gov/ferc-order-no-2222-explainer-facilitating-participation-electricity-markets-distributed-energy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opened wholesale power markets</a> to aggregated distributed energy resources, which can include electric vehicles. This opened the door for similar programs to start as states and grid operators finalized their respective rules.</p>

The majority of people only see the final product and don’t understand the work that goes into producing computers, laptops, printers, etc. either.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In this article, we will shed some light on this process through the role of the OEM. First, we will identify OEM is and determine how they work. Then we will compare OEM to other parties such as aftermarket and ODM to provide further practical context.</p>

<h2 style="text-align: justify;">What Does OEM Mean?</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">OEM stands for the original equipment manufacturer. So, the term is used to refer to companies that produce parts to be used by other companies to create larger-scale finished products.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">OEMs can operate in different ways. First of all, they can be hired by other companies on a freelance basis. For example, an engineering company working on a one-off job may require unique parts to complete the project. In that case, it makes sense to outsource the production of those parts to an OEM who will work on the project on a temporary basis.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On the other hand, an OEM may produce and sell some parts regularly. For example, a spark plug for a car is something that an auto-parts manufacturer would regularly produce. Companies can simply buy the parts like any other product.
